Tropical Modern

Sitting on the bank of a canal south of New Orleans is this boldly modern boathouse fit for both business meetings as well as small family gatherings. While the majority of the structure is glass and concrete, Tate utilizes a standing-seam metal roof as a reference to the more traditional forms of the local vernacular. Fit for its environment, the boathouse was constructed of poured-in-place concrete walls and a glass façade rated for hurricanes. Boat launch areas flank a two-story living quarter, which houses a double-height living room and a sleek kitchen. Upstairs is a bedroom and a catwalk leading to a balcony enclosed in glass railings, while below is a fish-cleaning station. The boathouse was created for both work and play, and its modern aesthetic allows for the interplay of function with the beauty of its surroundings.
